The benefits of LEGO® Based Therapy will look different for every child. Good facilitation focuses on meaningful individual goals and positive participation rather than expecting every child to communicate, interact or engage in the same way. 

 LEGO® Based Therapy can be facilitated across therapeutic, educational, disability, community and support settings by appropriately trained professionals who work with and support children and young people.

Facilitators come from a diverse range of backgrounds, including occupational therapists, teachers and educators, speech pathologists, psychologists, social workers, counsellors, nurses, developmental educators, mental health professionals, disability and community professionals, therapy assistants and support workers.

LEGO® Based Therapy is not limited to allied health professionals. Teachers and educators commonly use the methodology within schools and educational environments, while other professionals may incorporate LEGO® Based Therapy into groups, Brick clubs, programs and support settings appropriate to their role.

Completing LEGO® Based Therapy facilitator certification adds specialised knowledge and practical facilitation skills to a participant's existing professional skill set and toolkit. How the methodology is subsequently used should reflect the facilitators qualifications, professional responsibilities, scope of practice, work setting and the individual need and goals of the children and young people they support.

For professionals working within Australia's NDIS framework, an important distinction applies. Completing LEGO® Based Therapy Facilitator Certification does not by itself, qualify someone as an NDIS therapy provider. Where LEGO® Based Therapy is delivered and claimed specifically as an NDIS therapy support, the professional must meet the applicable NDIS qualification, registration or professional accreditation requirements, and the support itself must meet relevant NDIS funding criteria. 

This does not mean that LEGO® Based Therapy can only be used by NDIS-recognised therapy professionals. Teachers, educators, support professionals and others can undertake facilitator training and appropriately apply their LEGO® Based Therapy knowledge and skills within their existing professional setting and responsibilities.

Progressive Play® LEGO® Based Therapy Facilitator Certification is professional development designed to enhance the knowledge, and skills professionals already bring to their work, equipping them to understand, implement and facilitate LEGO® Based Therapy appropriately within their own professional context.  

LEGO® Based Therapy provides children with opportunities to develop strategies for navigating challenges, expressing their needs and finding positive ways to participate, collaborate and connect with others. Through shared building experiences children learn to communicate, express their feelings, practise problem-solving, negotiation and working through differences within a supportive and enjoyable environment.

The LEGO® building system is highly organised, systematic and predictable, while also offering almost endless possibilities for creativity and construction. For children who already have an interest in LEGO® building, this can tap into their intrinsic motivation - their own interest, curiosity and enjoyment become part of what motivates them to participate. The familiar structure of LEGO® bricks and the clear, tangible nature of building can provide a greater sense of predictability than some forms of open-ended or unstructured play. For some children, this predictability can support feelings of safety and regulation, helping them to remain engaged and comfortable while participating with others.

Progressive Play® LEGO® Based Therapy Facilitator Certification provides comprehensive professional development in the LEGO® Based Therapy methodology, supporting participants to develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to implement and facilitate programs within their existing professional setting.

Across five comprehensive modules, participants will develop knowledge and practical understanding of:

*The history, development, evidence base and core foundations of LEGO® Based Therapy.

*The LEGO® Based Therapy process and structured methodology, including how the approach is implemented in practice.

*The roles and responsibilities within LEGO® Based Therapy, including participant roles, facilitator responsibilities and additional role options that may be incorporated within different group structures.

*LEGO® Based Therapy program planning and implementation, including considerations for establishing and facilitating sessions, groups, programs and Brick Clubs.

*Effective facilitation approaches that support child-led, collaborative, strengths-based and neuro-affirming practice.

*Intake, assessment and observation, supporting thoughtful planning and an understanding of individual participant needs and goals.

*Contemporary understanding of autism and neurodiversity, including considerations relevant to communication, sensory processing, regulation and participation.

*Professional documentation and outcome reporting, including considerations relevant to NDIS, educational and other professional settings.

*Adaptation and flexible facilitation, while maintaining the foundations and integrity of the LEGO® Based Therapy methodology.

*Practical considerations for establishing and resourcing a LEGO® Based Therapy program within different professional environments.

*Best-practice and professional considerations relevant to the appropriate implementation of LEGO® Based Therapy.

*Broader principles relating to play, learning, motivation and engagement, supporting a deeper understanding of effective facilitation.

*Appropriate use of LEGO® terminology and trademarks within professional practice.

This is a comprehensive LEGO® Based Therapy Facilitator Certification program. Participants learn the core and fundamental processes of the methodology, together with advanced application techniques and supporting theory required to understand and implement LEGO® Based Therapy in practice.

There are no additional levels of LEGO® Based Therapy facilitator training or certification required following completion of this program. Graduates receive full Progressive Play® LEGO® Based Therapy Facilitator Certification on successful completion of the course requirements.

As professional knowledge and practice continue to evolve, facilitators are encouraged to maintain their professional development and remain current with contemporary research and practice. Progressive Play® recommends refresher training approximately every three years.

Upon completion, Progressive Play® facilitators are equipped to understand, plan, establish and facilitate LEGO® Based Therapy programs, support individual and group participation, observe and assess progress, document outcomes and confidently apply their learning within their existing professional practice. 

There are no formal pre-requisites or previous LEGO® Based Therapy training requirements to enrol in this course. You do not need previous experience with LEGO® Based Therapy or advanced LEGO® building skills.

Progressive Play® LEGO® Based Therapy Facilitator Certification is professional development designed for people who work with, educate or support children and young people across therapeutic, allied health, mental health, education, disability, community and other relevant professional settings.

Participants come from a diverse range of professional backgrounds, including allied health professionals, psychologists, counsellors, social workers, teachers and educators, nurses, disability and community professionals, therapy assistants, support workers and others whose roles involve working with and supporting children and young people.

Your existing professional qualifications, role and responsibilities remain important.

Completing Progressive Play® LEGO® Based Therapy Facilitator Certification adds specialised knowledge and practical facilitation skills to your existing professional toolkit; it does not independently qualify you as a therapist or provide a new regulated professional qualification.

  Upon completion you will have developed the knowledge and practical skills to confidently facilitate and implement LEGO® Based Therapy sessions.

How you subsequently use LEGO® Based Therapy should be appropriate to your existing professional role, qualifications, responsibilities and practice setting.
